Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore has a separate Labour and Welfare Wing since 2000 to deal with matters related to the employment and welfare of the expatriate Bangladeshis in Singapore. The High Commission in close co-ordination with the Bangladesh Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment and Ministry of Foreign Affairs oversees the interests of the Bangladeshi expatriates.

Singapore is now home to around 1,20,000 Bangladeshi expatriates. In the early seventies, Bangladeshis first started to come to Singapore to work in professional positions like University and Polytechnic faculty members, Engineers, Mariners and Bankers. Then from the nineties, Singapore started to recruit a large number of semi-skilled and skilled Bangladeshis every year for its shipyard and construction sectors and such recruitment is on the rising. Other than these traditional areas, Bangladeshis with requisite educational qualification and job experience can also apply for jobs in the hospitality and service sectors. A large number of Bangladeshis are also involved in small and medium scale business.

The following chart shows the number of Bangladeshis employed in Singapore since 2002:
