His Excellency Kamrul Ahsan, a career diplomat, was born in 1962 at Noakhali in Bangladesh. He obtained his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1984.
Upon graduation he joined Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) as an Assistant Engineer and worked there till 1987.
In 1988 he joined Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1988-1992, he served as an Assistant Secretary in the Ministry.
While in the Foreign Ministry, he attended Specialized Training Course at Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy and Foundation Course at the Public Administration Training Centre. He also studied Chinese language at Beijing Language and Cultural Institute, Beijing, China from 1989-1991. He attended a course on security matters at Asia and Pacific Centre for Security Studies at Hawaii, USA in 2000.
Before joining as Bangladesh High Commissioner in Singapore, he served in different capacities at Bangladesh Missions in Beijing, London, Washington DC and Dubai.
From 1992-1995, he served as Second Secretary and First Secretary at Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing, China.
From 1995-1999, he served at Bangladesh High Commission in London, United Kingdom initially as First Secretary(Political) and later as Counsellor(political).
From 1999-2001, after returning to headquarters he served as Director, Personnel Department, Director, South Asia and SAARC Department and finally as Director of the office of the Foreign Secretary (Permanent Secretary).
From 2001-2003, he served as Political Counsellor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC.
From 2003- August 2007, he served as Bangladesh Consul General for Dubai and Northern Emirates, UAE.
On August 30, 2007, he presented his credentials to His Excellency Sellapan Ramanathan, President of the Republic of Singapore as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh.
He is married to Madame Saira Nazneen Ahsan and is blessed with two sons- Zoheb Ahsan and Aaryan Ahsan.
